I love decorating with old items. For me, the older they are the better. Why? Each piece has a story behind it of a time past and I always want to know more. I guess that's where the historian in me comes out. I want to know what it was used for, who it belonged to, and the rest of the history behind it. Let's take a look at seltzer bottles, spindles, and dough bowls.
First, seltzer bottles. The glass bottles were invented in France in 1892 and used with a siphon to dispense carbonated water. I have seen them range in price from the $30 range all the way up to $170 a bottle. It usually depends on the color of the glass, the condition it is in, and if there are any specific markings on them such as the name of a company. I will definitely be adding a couple of these to my collection soon. Click on the ones I have pictured below to see more detail. They are a steal in my opinion.
Next up, old yarn spindles. These are fun to use in your vignettes at home. They add some interest and color if you're needing that as well. What's even better with these? Its a set of 35 empty spindles that come in a factory crate! I have never seen anything quite like this, and I've been antiquing for many years. Typically I pay anywhere from $7-$20 a spindle depending on the size and if it still has thread on it. The use of spindles date back 9,000 years to the ancient Egyptians who used them when making sails for ships, tapestries, or anything else that required woven cloth. This set is definitely one to add to your collection or simply use as a unique piece in your home. Click the picture below to find out more.
Dough bowls may only date back to colonial times, but they still have a story to tell. I've been looking for some time now for an extra large dough bowl to use on my dining table. When I say extra large, I mean EXTRA. You can find small replica dough bowls just about anywhere, but for me, I want the real thing. I finally scored one at a local swap meet back in the fall. If you're ever in the area and you can make it to the Junk Ranch in Prairie Grove, Ar, its something you don't want to miss! If I had waited a little longer, I could have gotten one of these dough bowls for this amazing price. I didn't say cheap, but for sure a great deal. Large dough bowls can sometimes go up to the $300+ range, which is definitely to high for me. If you're in the market, check these out by clicking below.
